| Sedatives for air travel? Hi Does anyone know of any sedatives that are legal and can be used for air travel? I have a healthy and rational fear of flying, and while I can get through 5 hours of turbulence it would be better for my sanity and the upholstery if I could do it asleep! :-) r

| For something legal and potent enough I would go and see your GP and explain the situation. Some of the travel sickness remedies are based around tranquilisers, but I'd have to look in to it to find which ones. If you really must, then an anti-histamine washed down with a double scotch has always worked for me, but that is just plain silly, and I would never EVER suggest it to someone else. Caveat emptor and all that.

| Ok, I understand your plight but I once read that about 95% of air incidents happen either on take off or landing so you only really need to be asleep for these Sorry, only trying to help with statistics - IMHO much better than dopeing yourself up for a flight besides if you were so unlucky and anything happened during the flight you would be so far out of it that you couldn't cope.

| £10 bag of smack and some tin foil. Not legal but you'll be relaxed as anything and it should easily last the 5 hour flight. You'll have to stick another £10 bag up your ar$e for the flight home, though, unless you are passing through Turkey, Afghanistan or Pakistan. Or do what Missus Woz did on a flight back from Australia- turn up to the airport, find out the flight was delayed 8 hours then spend the time in the bar getting horribly pissed with your sister. Then wake up in the aisle of the plane with your arms around some bloke's legs using his feet as a pillow and dribbling into the suede. Mind you he got his own back by boring the hell out of her which is not fun with a hangover. Or get your GP to prescribe a mild sedative. Yes. That's probably the better solution now I think about it.

Take off and landing are great, the bit in the middle does my head in a big way,it is sooooo boring, I have never managed to sleep while flying either. Though a 13 hour sector from Bangkok to Frankfurt sitting next to a snuff snorting 20 stone German peado, the insomnia had little to do with flying!
