Ear Infections, cures please

I'm going to try and see the Doctor tomorrow morning ( again )

I've got a ear infection, and went to the doctors 5 days ago, he gave me Amoxicillin 500mg, it's a 21 capsule dose, I've taken 16 capsules so far, and I'm not 1 little bit better,

and half my face is now swollen, depriving the world of my handsome good looks ,

has anyone taken anything else that's had better results???????

" I'm not very well "

That sounds like its taken hold - hence why the doc has given you pills..

When I feel it coming on, I normally sit my my head over a bucket of hot water, towel over the top keeping the steam in. I add Tigerbalm into the water - but menthol works. I do it for 15 mins, hour break, then repeat. I yawn when breathing in to the right places.. but thats just me.

I can't see that it would hurt.. - but then I am not a doctor..

My doc also recommends warm olive oil dripped into the ear if you have a build up of wax.. that also works well over a few days..

Jim whatever you do make sure you finish the 21 day course of anti- biotics.
So many people fail to do this and end up building up an immunity to the drugs. Thios has contributed to an increase in hospital acquired illnesses such as MRSA.
No poking in your lug hole either! Warm hot water bottle and pain killers.

I think a couple of knitting needles would do the trick nicely Jim.

Don't try this at home kids!

Distaclor tablets twice a day for 7 days & Gentisone HC drops into the ear three times a day for 7 days normally sorts me out in jig time.

When this has cleared up you might want to look into getting a pro-ear mask - just a thought...

God I hope not for Jim's sake! I got one in my outer ear last May & it still sends shivers down my spine. It was bloody agony & I had to attend the Eye & ear hospital in Dublin three times a week for a fortnight to get the dressing changed.

Be afraid, be very afraid!!
