| I would also make sure I have a full first aid and O2 kit at the pool. The HSA guys here are generally more interested in helping companies avoid accidents, and are generally very helpful and approachable. However, if a serious incident occurs, and they investigate and find out you are at fault, they can and will cause you no end of grief. After all, that's what they're there for, to promote and protect H&S while at work.[/quote] Makes complete sense, green incoming Regards Paul

| Well thanks for your help, I really just needed an idea of what "might" have happened so I can try and advise him. As for the containated air theory, I filled the bottle, then filled mine straight after it and I felt fine so I dont think it was it. As for the O2 kit, I now know better and will always ensure its around. Thanks Again.

| I ended up as the "crash test dummy" for controlled bouyant lifts on a course once, things got a little carried away and I ended up being dragged up from 3.5M(pool) bottom a total of 12 times, in about 30 mins. My head was spinning a little after that.

| to have divers in the water, especially students, and no O2 is beyond irresponsible. what is the primary treatment for a diving accident? what happens if a student panics, holds his breath and heads for the surface? cant happen? how many DM's have had to wrestle with a student that DID panic underwater to keep them from hurting themselves? what if a student has an asthma attack underwater? the GP gave them the ok to learn to dive, as their asthma wasnt that serious, but it causes a panic, they cant breath, bolt for the surface? the list goes on. im not going to go starting a flame war on who's agency is famous for the "buy your ticket" mentality, but really, as divers we have an obligation to new divers and students to do everything we can to help them out, and keep them safe while under our care. just because O2 on site may not be "required" by local or organizational standards, it does not excuse any instructor from not having it. irregardless of organizational loyalties, i would not DM for any instructor that couldnt supply O2 onsite on his own, pool, or open water, period. that sort of practice is part of what has given PADI a bad name, as well as other organizations. training unsafe divers by unsafe instructors. O2, its cheap insurance! Ray Yankee Rebel p.s. im not bagging on PADI, and not labeling ALL instructors as bad, theres just enough of them out there that give the good ones a bad name. |

| If you dont have O2 to hand, any rich EANx mix is better than nothing. So keeping a small cylinder of 50/50 nearby might be a good idea for the future. |

| Hmmmmm Got to agree with other posters, if i came across these symptoms with a patient a TIA is the first thing i would consider, these can happen to anyone of any age and any level of fitness etc! (having said that it could also be one of many other things as well!) Paul |

Just thought that this was funny, where im sat there is a HSE diagram on how to sit correctly at your computer, how not to stress your body during the sitting phase and how to correctly look at the screen. Just sometimes although not all that often at all I think the nanny state takes it a tiny tiny bit too far with somethings (No sarcasim at all there, none I swear no sarcasim) |

| We take it to the pool as a matter of course and check its complete and working each time as well In a drowning or near drowning incident - you've got a whole lot more chance if you can positively ventilate someone with 02 I reckon. Dom may well have a view on this
