even tho my attempt to set a world record (just kidding, it was an accident) landed me in the pot, the depth was never more than 18m I think as per us navy tables. Interesting that in UK they went down to 30+ meters. I used to think there was a set plan for recompression but it seems that every doc has his own method. It was interesting because before that I would have thought all docs treated equal - at least in the same country.
I know at 18m I had a face mask and had to lie down, when I was at shallower depths I had a space helmet on and could sit up. It was pretty crowded with about 10 people at a time on the shorter shallower dives. They were not being treated for dcs

On my first trip in the pot i was iv catheterised (but no fluids as my buddies had managed to get me to drink 8 litres of water on the way to the pot _ mean buggers!) mainly so that if i fitted on the o2 they had a way of controlling it quickly if neccessary. but apart from a distinct metallic taste i didn't have any major effects.

On my second trip into the chamber, i had an extension to the normal treatment, and felt very close to the tox limits, i was close to vomiting the whole time i was on o2. They even sent me to a ward rather than the b&b they sent me to last time, so that i could be monitored during my recovery. Interestingly this time i was not iv catheterised before treatment.

My understanding of the resons they can get away with a higher ppO2 in the chamber is that you are sat/lying still and you are not working, and that you have someone with you so that if you start fitting they can take you off the o2 and control the fit with drugs if neccessary, and that you are not in the water. Plus this is not a recreational activity but a medical treament - its neccessary not optional!

I was in the chamber a few weeks ago and the way it was explained to me was:

I was doing table 64 which was design by the US Navy
This took me down to 18 meters for 20 minutes on 5 minutes off - I can't remember how many times I was on O2

Then up to 9 meters - I cant remember how many times I was on O2 for, the last session I think was 1 1/2 hours on

In total the first session was 5 hours 45 mins

The 18 meter session was to compress the nitrogen bubble and elimination

The 9 meters was oxygen therapy for repair of nerves, tissues, blood vessel

Without the five mins off I may well have got oxygen poisoning

The subsequent sessions were 1 hour 45 minutes of 3 x (30 mins on 5 mins off)
These were again for oxygen therapy for repair of nerves, tissues, blood vessel

I had a mask on like the fighter pilots use in the movies

I had a nice chicken, rice, veg lunch and drinks, blankets, magazines sent down whenever I wanted

My education of diving has increased alot, however, I never want to experience hyperbaric again

Well if you think once is bad then twice is worse, and i REALLY don't want to do this again...to be honest - i can't do this again - the main reason why i'm gonna stop diving if i can't discover a reason for the bend!
