| Your PEFR is your peak expiratory flow rate. Not exactly your lung volume, more the force with which you exhale but a good measure of lung health. If you were asthmatic or had otherwise knackered lungs, this would be reduced post exercise or reduced if you were wheezy ( from base line when you were "healthy"). It is hard to say what is normal as it depends on your age, size and general fitness. But you passed the HSE so it must be tickety boo.

| FEV = Forced Expiratory Volume and is how much air you can exhale in a forced exhalation. FVC = Forced Vital Capacity is the total amount of air exhaled during the spirometry testing, this is the closest to your total lung capacity. Both are measured in litres. HTH Dom

| FEV1+ FVC predicted values depend on sex + age, I'm guessing youre not big hairy alison so if you post your age + height, I'll check the tables........ |
| ||||
| Oooh, ta! 6ft tall, 89kg - gives me a BMI of 27, but I'm a lot broader than most peeps, so don't hold much truck with the BMI saying I'm overweight! |
| ||||
| Predicted Values (your percentage) FEV1 4.74 (109%) FVC 5.69 (107%) PEFR 672 (90%) So FEV1 and FVC are normal, but your PEFR is a little low - but it can be technique dependent. Dom

The result depends on exactly what test was done as there are different tests. I remember a very fit person whose pulse rate after the step test was no different to at rest - he was supremely fit Just be glad you passed and keep yourself fit

| PEFr is age dependant, as well as being dependant on your height. S.
