PFO Closure

Hi Al,

Good to see the operation went well and best wishes with your recovery.

Did you get a time scale for getting back diving?

Regards

Hi Al,

Glad to hear it went well. A friend of mine had this several years ago and was diving again in no time.

Mine was an amplatzer too but it was definitely femoral vein. The artery would be a bit of a problem if it kept bleeding after the op. It was also discussed that one of the possible issues that could occur was if they nicked the femoral artery when trying to get into the vein.
Wow that's raelly cool. I understood they use arteries in many cases as veins have a series of valves in them so it was a much cleaner route. Still an amazing op whichever way they do it and really glad things are good with you.

Kudos Al, I hope you are back to it 100% fit asap, I have to say I am in awe of folk having this proceedure done, I suspect if I was found to have one I'd be selling my kit

Safe diving [when you resume]
Steve

just to add to the general chorus of get well soon, plus add a take it easy - i know its all done via a catheter but it is heart surgery after all, and i definitely rushed back to doing too much too soon .

It all went well, and I am now the receiptent of one of these:

It was all installed via a vein in my leg and run up through the venous system into my heart. I now have a sore leg at the entry point and a sore throat from the echo probe they put down my throat. They used a general anaesthetic to make this easier so I didn't see/feel the op.

The most fascinating part was watching the ultrasound afterwards and being able to see my heart beating with the implant installed. I'm off work for a week now and banned for driving for 7 days. Hopefully it will be a smooth recovery and I'll be back diving next year.

Cheers
Al

All the best on your recovery, that is a facy lamp shade you have fitted
