| Imported post <font color='#0000FF'> Sorry, couldn't resist. But seriously, although the TOE is considered the 'gold standard', TTE is probably just as good for PFO visualising. Don't know which one the Victoria do, but I would have thought that they would have made sure you were aware of the risks involved during a TOE, so probably the non-invasive test there. There was a study not too long ago that detailed the risk vs. benefit of TOE tests for all divers, just in case, which IIRC concluded that it wasn't worth the risk. There is another test, Transcranial Doppler, which is the most sensitive of the lot at detecting the presence of a shunt but this will pick up conditions other than PFO and is therefore only useful for ruling one out. Good luck with the test. Let us know how it goes. |

I gave them my E Mail address, which hasn't changed since and they said they'd E Mail the participants with the results, but I've never seen anything. The really heavy narcosis stuff was 'scary' !

| Imported post <font color='#000080'>Oh i loved the narked stuff, but i emailed them and they hadnt really got that far with the research. I got the "middle" strength gas, which was great fun. The regs you breathed from were cleaned in a bucket of soapy water, and they blew bubbles which when you are narked outta your box is hilarious! My ex-best buddy got the strongest one, he was fine for ages doing the tests (you had a lap top and had a series of basic mental tests to do that checked your coordination, memory etc), but suddenly he flipped out and spat the reg out, serious paranoia and screwed up in the head for 5 minutes! Apparently it happens if you are a big drinker (which he is - three pints a night, plus legless every friday/saturday night, and he aint a big bloke). I was gutted when they wernt doing it again this year! The only worrying thing i found with my own reactions was that i knew i had done it wrong, but didnt give a monkeys. Scary.
