| Digs, if you're going down the DIR route then you'll have to stop using equipment to compensate for poor technique I used to have back problems, but I started doing exercises most evenings to strengthen my core muscles and they've (touch wood) gone away. Janos

| Janos, were they advised by anyone in particular, or downloadable from the net? It's a bit annoying because I used to have a very strong back and stomach from playing hockey 5 days a week, now I have a back made of jelly because of my layabout evenings from work wearing me out. I'm also keen on any insulation the thing could offer for my back and kidneys on long cold dives as well, which I think could have positive impacts on my feeling wonderful after diving. Digs. |

Try yer local bikey shop. They should have kidney belts which provide support as well as warmth & can be had for a few quid. Works a treat.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pilates-Back...e=UTF8&s=books In fact, it may have even been recommended to me by someone on YD But at £7 or £8 you can't go wrong.

| Provided you don't have anything physically wrong with your back, the biggest cause of back problems is tight hamstrings. So gentle stretches with some exercises to stregthen the core (abs and lower back) should work wonders. If you are at all unsure, get yourself checked out by a professional, they will check you thoroughly, have access to X-Ray equipment and be able to advise you on appropriate exercises and stretches. |

| Digger, I think that sitting about a lot and being busy at work (computer work?) is the main cause of your non specific back ache. You need to keep it moving and mobile. Using a brace or support will make it ache more. Pilates will work fine as will moving more in the evenings. And you don't need an xray for back ache!!!!!!!!!!!!!
