| Well he isn't there now. Do you think he's OK? If anyone thinks he may need checking up on, I can get tomorrow off work... all I need it contributions to the flight costs. I could see this sort of situation appearing on CSI or similar. Seriously, Chris, ... I hope you're OK and have been to the doc's!

You were assessed, had an ECG recorded by the sounds of it - it showed no immediate life threatening condition - so you have to wait. If your ECG was in anyway suspicious you would have been pounced on from every direction. Remember, 99.99% of the time, if you are left to wait in A&E it is because you do not need immediate attention. The modern Emergency Department has become a emergency facility, GP, mental health drop-in service, social care facility and much much more. Over two thirds of patients attending need not have been there in the the first place. If you are fit to wait, you wait - if someone else comes in who cannot wait - you wait longer, it really is that simple. For all of those who love to knock the NHS, come and work a few shifts at the pointy end of health care, with insufficient staff, inadequate resources and customers (can't call them patients anymore) who often regard you as not worth scraping off their shoe - despite you doing the best you can for them. No wonder I'm getting the hell out! [/RANT] And breathe.. and off for another 12 1/2 hour night shift in your local friendly A&E

| Well, I'm back. Went to the local health clinic 10 miles away. I was attended straight away. (Had to pay €3.30 though). They did a electro cadiogram and saw that all was fine. They deduced it was stress related and gave me Valium. I had to wait an hour for futher observation where they gave me the all clear. The doctor prescribed me a herbal pill that helps combat stress. She didn't believe I should take anything stronger unless this doesn't help. As Matt rightly says it the cause of the stress that has to be combated, it's not taking pills that will provide a solution. I have my own business and at time t can be havoc such as today. Feeling better, the valium seems to work, stopped by the supermarket and saw they now have Heinz baked beans sa I brought 12 cans. Thanks for all your support- You convinced me to go and was worthwhile. The power of YD!

| And a large proportion of the time, people who could really do with being dealt with get shunted down the line by sheer volume. I hope all the YDers who get a bit of a pain in their chests don't immediately sprint (slowly) to A&E!

| Here in Portugal you can't just turn up to a main hospital. Before you go there you must go by a local clinic. They access you and if neccessary send you forward to the main district hospital. If I have to use the clinic I try to go during the times when the soap opera is on where there are less people, or go later at night during the night shift. You have to pay a nominal sum of €3.30 but that's fine by me. I have to go back now as I left my glasses behind... oh welll...

Stress related chest pains are seriously bad news! I had chest pains but I had a medically trained wife. I had the big heart attack on the ward next day while the consultant was doing rounds. My father in law was finally home from clearing up after his sister died. He had 'indigestion' all day and virtually dropped dead doing the washing up. We are looking forward to the post that says the Doctors have passed you fit. |

| Valium, thats the last thing you need throw um in the bin. |

Wouldn't want Valium it's a depressant and addictive. I'm not by-polar but do have huge swings of high and low so will not touch it with a large barge pole.
