| I'm not a doctor, etc etc etc yah de yah de yah. However, Coral cuts, even minor ones, can have some pretty nasty effects. I met a surfer dude in Fiji whi had a miniscule little scrape on the top of his foot, he ignored it until his foot blew up to 3 times its normal size, ( I'm sure that you wouldn't want that to happen to your particular afflicted part), he then tried self medication and ended up in hospital on a major course of anti-biotics and facing possible surgery! In your case though, I am sure that you are right and you have merely been bitten by the Sulawasi Buttock Nesting spider. Could it be carpet burn ?

| Kirstie, even if a GP's based in Plymouth, they may have had some tropical medicine training and if not will have the resources to find someone who has. I will probably clear up with some antihistamine cream but I'd get it looked at.

I scraped it at least a fortnight ago - surely it would've reacted before now, wouldn't it? As for the spider theory, at least I'd get in the paper I suppose.

I wondered about that, or an allergy, but it's very localised on one cheek.

| I can see it now.... GP: (peering over the top of his/her half moon specs) Yes, what can I do for you today? K: I have a spotty arse GP: Well let's have a look at it then K: Nooooooo, I'm not showing you, I'm embarassed but I might have stung it on some coral 3 weeks ago or it might be from weeing in my wetsuit or from getting jiggy with Turby on a coconut matting carpet in a far flung hut near a beach. GP: (strokes chin and sighs)... If you told me you had grown a strawberry on your bottom I'd have said have this cream and come back in a week

Actually, I did have a tinkle in my wetsuit on more than one occasion. But why would the rash only be on one buttoxeter? And there was no jiggyness on coconut matting. Turby had bottom trouble of a different nature on holiday, which precluded any sudden movement.....
