| Yes, when diving from hardboats I don't usually have a problem 'cause the drop off is on slack. If it's running I can still easily do a flag impersonation though. That's why I prefer to come back up a dsmb instead of the shotline. I do appreciate however, that for some dives, especially with large amounts of deco, it is necessary to come back up the line. A deco station would be useful then, (but that's not in the realms of rib diving).
When we dive from ribs we go in in two or three waves as someone has to stay with the boat whilst the others are in the water so diving at slack can be impossible depending on which wave you go in on and also if there is a short window.
I like the idea of taking a few minutes breather after kitting up because yes, it does take it out of you when the boat is rocking a bit. You tend to feel a bit rushed 'cause you are aware of the slack window time and everyone getting a dive.
I do get some exercise apart from diving, I use a mountain bike and visit the gym a few times a week. Unfortunately, I am a skinny female near pensioner type and I don't think this helps either, especially when diving with a set of butch male divers.
Anyway, a number of helpful tips:
a) try different fins
b) video finning action
c) more leg exercises
d) take a few minutes before getting in water after kitting up
e) time descent rate to breathing and not the other way round
f) assume slightly head down position to angle of shotline
g) use a shorter shot length so it goes straight down instead of at an angle
h) get in on slack
i) get a breather at shot before descent or at 6 metres
think this sums it up. If anyone has any more helpful hints please feel free to add to them.
Cheers
