The unbalanced version always seemed more hazardous to me for that reason - sea water coming back up the tube could possibly be an infection vector?

PS I use a balanced one, clean it by flushing it through with water and occasional detergent, and have had no problems so far.

My giddy aunt that's neurotic to the extreme...
Do you apply a Jubilee clip before sea bathing?

Unblanced to 70m and never had a problem.

You learn somethign everyday..........I thought that a P valve was to save having to take suit off while on a rhib/boat and that the bloke just gets his todger out and urinates but it seems that is not so.

Now one of the pics showed a tube and a bag....is this the same as an indwelling catheter and urine collection bag that gets tied to your leg? What affect would being at 30 metres have on a plassie bag with a litre of urine in it? I am sure there must be some sort of physics theory or law to give me the formula.

Yazzy, the thing you were thinking of is a p-zip or 'convenience zip'.

P valves are basically tubes that pass through your drysuit so you can wee while on a dive. They're attached using external sheath catheters (not indwelling ). No plastic bag is usually involved - that picture was just a bit of cleaning apparatus.

No, you're getting confused with a dump valve although why they put on your shoulder is anyone's guess. It takes me ages to wriggle the chunks up and out.

That's precisely what I've been doing since the first time I used mine and I noticed a tube full of pee was still trapped. Presumably the non-blowers just disconnect and allow the tube to empty into their drysuit legs?
