| Ill fitting, inflexible fins can cause cramp. Also if you are dehydrated, eg: if you've been boozing the night before a dive or sweating profusely, that can make it worse. Bananas contain potassium, which is an electrolyte and will help a bit but something like dioralyte, which is re-hydration powder will make sure that you have enough "salts" in your blood stream. Finally, you could try frog kicking instead of straight leg kicking. If you normally suffer from cramp, if it wakes you at night, you can take Quinine which is not contra-indicated with diving. it is a prescription only drug. Or you could try Tonic water which has quinine in it and was originally made for drinking in India when people got cramp from dehydration due to the heat.

| I used to have a real demonstration quality cramp release. I was good at it. Then I added Weezle booties to my drysuit and stopped getting cold. Like all unused skills it has faded and I'd probably look like an amateur if I tried it now. Bananas are for Potassium. I thought cramp was salt. If you are ever found in want of potassium by a hospital lab they top you up and from then on you eat bananas. I have never put anything more foul down my neck. Why was it 'in water' not a tablet in a nice shell? |

| Like others have said water, water and more water, oh, and less alcohol the night before. Works for me anyway, I get evil cramp in my legs(usually right leg?) when dehydrated! Just my 2p ![]()
