What would you do?
OK the fish huggers will like this but here goes when i got home from a weekends dive i started to shell the scallops slipped with the knife and cut the top of the thumb off at the intercostal joint (i think thats the right term) if not at the bend in the thumb.

went to hospital and got it glued and stitched back up however after the visit to the Exeter hospital today they want to slice the thumb open and reattach one of the severed nerves so that i get feeling back in the left side (as you look at it from nail side up) i have feeling in the right because that nerve is fine.

Now this is the question i don't have to have this done and will not have feeling there for the future and it may get painful in years to come but they cant be sure, or they operate tomorrow and i will know in a month or two if that works and feeling returns.

in the mean time i would miss some great dives with Gary and the sub dive on the M1 and won't be in the water for at least two months

what would you do??

If ur thumb is still going to work fine then go diving for sure. Besides it'll make a great war story for people in the future as to why you have no feeling in the left tip of ur thumb.

Actually, if you have the option of getting it done at a more convenient time (say, November) that would be the best option.

Seriously, if you have an injury, doesn't it make a visit to the pot more likely?
