I've decided that it's time for me to get a bit fitter as I have a sedentary job (I design diggers, not much exercise there really except the mouse hand and the brain) and I'm slowly building an impressive band of office lard, so a week ago I bought a new bike.
I did 10 miles on Sunday, the day after I bought the bike and managed to break off the sprocket guard when the chain came off, this is one of the things that was rectified by the Halfords boys, and the Shimano settings were not correct, again fixed. And I have to say I felt pretty good afterwards.
Last Friday I took advantage of an early finish and set off for the lanes around Burton, where I live, and got as far as Newton Solney before the clamp holding the handlebars had worked itself loose and the bike became un rideable- a long walk home ensued. Lesson number one, take tools with you.
Friday evening was taken up by BBQ and bike fixing so this morning at 7am it was time for the rematch!
I feel quite pleased with myself for doing another 10 miles this morning on some, for me at least, quite hilly sections. Please bear in mind that I have not ridden a bicycle properly for about 15 years so having a new 21 speed MTB is a bit of a novelty, so it's not surprising that I had to stop a couple of times, well slightly more than that, but I only pushed the bike twice and even then it wasn't very far.
Bring on next week!
Added: I would have put this on the deepstop but I don't appear to be able to log in...
