Jaw ache - no seriously!!

Hello!!

I was wanting some advise on my regs - recently I've been getting mega jaw ache on my right hand side of my jaw.

It feels like a muscular ache and 3 days later it still hurts to clench my teeth together. I wonder whether it is due to my reg position -see my (excellent ) self portrait - you can see the reg pushing quite far and I think I'm compensating and therefore causing jaw pain by trying to keep it in my mouth!

Is there anything I can do to stop my reg pushing so far across my mouth???!!!

Kinda medical problem, probably not a medical answer though - hope it's to post here?!

Thanks in advance of your help

Rachael

Hey Rach

I am by NO means an expert on this, however I had the same problem and kinda assumed it was down to my reg hose being a couple of inches too long. I bought a shorter one, a few inches shorter, swapped it over and hey presto it worked! Much more comfortable, no more having to clamp down on the reg to hold it in place. I also bought one of those soft comfibite mouthpieces and it's fab and helped too!

Now I'm sure the clever people here will say DON'T do that, but it worked for me!

Hi,
I get TMJ and used to get jaw cramps or jaws locking until I used the comfi-bite mouthpieces on my regs - They are about a fiver each, but worth it to take the misery out, and loses that 'incredible hulk' look post dive!

If you want a proper comfy-bite try one of these, you actually mould to your teeth for perfect fit

They come highly recommended

Looking at the photo, it does look like the hose is pushing the reg into an uncomfortable position.

The first thing I would do is to take the strain relief off both sides of the hose, this is free and may just do the trick.

If it doesnt work, then you may want to look at different length hoses or swivels. Though if the strain relief thing didn't work, I would wonder why the hose is quite so inflexible - it is a problem with that particular hose? Maybe you could borrow a different hose from someone else before buying one?

But anyway, try taking the strain relief bits off both ends first, that may give more flexibility.

These look quite good, but does the reg stay in your mouth if you didn't bite on the mouthpiece?

They are like the JAX one. Mould them to the shape of your teeth/gums and they work really well. Its a bit like wearing a gumsheild. You dont need to bite on it, it just sits round your teeth.

i used to get ulcers where mouthpeices rubs on my gums, even the bloody uncomfy-bite ones. these are luvverley
