| So you might have some tickets for Sharm going spare Sorry, I would guess whatever the tests results come out with? They tell you to stop drinking (coffee, tea and beer) and change you diet, stop smoking if you do.....and so on.... I wouldn't worry if I was you......it'll only put your blood presure up ![]() |

| Good advice from Stesh. Worrying cannot make things any better and a holiday is bound to reduce your blood pressure.

| There are quite a lot of different reasons why you might have raised blood pressure and a lot are only temporary. I failed an HSE medical a couple of years ago due to hypertension, but when examined by my own doctor, nothing unusual was found and I returned to the HSE doctor and was passed. I haven't had any problems since. In any case, there are quite a few drugs which control hypertension and will not stop you from diving. Good luck, and don't panic

| I take medication for high blood pressure, and it doesn't stop me diving at all. If you do end up with a diagnosis of hypertension and end up getting treatment for it, you'll need to get a sports diver medical (about £80 IIRC) just to make sure it's safe for you to dive. Huge numbers of people have high blood pressure without even knowing about it, so it's nothing to stress about - just a little bit of inconvenience getting it under control. Whether it's currently safe for you to dive depends on a few things - first of all, whether this is just an isolated reading or if you also come out as high on future investigations (so the checkup with the nurse is a good idea) and also the current level of blood pressure. The UKSDMC has guidelines on blood pressure levels and diving ( see http://www.uksdmc.co.uk/standards/St...pertension.htm ). It would probably be a good idea to have a chat with a diving doctor / medical referee before going to Sharm - there are some listed here: UKSDMC medical referees - ring one up and ask for advice. Also remember that you'll probably be asked to sign a medical status declaration form of some sort at your dive centre out in sharm - one of the questions on that will be about hypertension, so you'll need to be able to say you've had it checked out with a diving doctor if you're going to be able to answer honestly. Try not to worry too much about it, but don't dismiss it either: it's something that needs checking out, but if necessary it can be controlled and doesn't have to be a big deal.

I'm just up the road from you in Bury St Debenhams, if you want to give me the tickets.. As everyone has said, try and put it out of your mind, Don't get stressed. Spend a few quid on a couple of full body massages prior to your next visit to the Docs, and even go in a floatarium (there is one in Bury on GuildHall Street at the North end). It may sound a bit girly (not sure of your sex - sorry), but they really help you relax, and destress. Do this before seeing the doc next and your Blood pressure will be below the floor. I can recomend a couple of cheep massuse's (sp??) in Bury if you like. They work from home so may come out to you for a small fee. Take it easy!! Dave C
