Diving after a head injury?

Friendlies, i thought i'd run this past you lot before i bother the DDRC

My girlfriend had a serious head injury 10 years ago, she is fully recovered, suffers no ill effects and is not seeing a doctor for it.

Has anyone had a similar experience, and was there any consequences with regards to diving?

We hope to be going to Egypt in a coupla weeks and she is keen to give diving a go

Thanks folks

congratulations on your ten year anniversary together

--Realistically, if there's any concern then for god's sake don't listen to any of the muppets on here. Get her to a doctor to put her mind at rest.

I know an RAN clearance Diver here who was injured whilst playing Rugby, resulting in loss of consciousness for a while. They took him out of diving for good but I think they were concerned about his possible future reaction to high ppO2 and they do frequently dive on the edge of the envelope.

Friend of mine had brain surgery a few years ago, Diving doc refused him a medical as the scar tissue in the brain was likely to become a bubble trap.

I have had a subdural haematoma and a subarachnoid haemorrhage due to a terrible woman driver in Texas hitting me at 45 mph. i have been diving for years and i am fine.

However, scar tissue, of which i had none, loves holding on to Nitrogen, which could lead to a cerebral bend. I'm pretty sure a doc will say probably not - my missus is a doc and she thinks i'm an idiot though - had an MRI and a CAT in the states and a consultant neurosurgeon said i was ok to dive.

Better safe than bent, as i always said to Freddie Mercury.
