Factors increasing oxygen toxicity:
  • Exercise
  • Immersion
  • Stress Response
  • Carbon dioxide
In a pot most of these don't come into play, so you are much more likely to tolerate the high PPO2. Some still do the funky chicken however, often without any warning at all.

Everyone was laughing on the pot dive (30m IIRC) during my dive medical examiner course - mind you it did look like a load of medics having a childrens party, with balloons and bottles of lemonade.

Narked in a chamber?

Cue 8 adults singing "I know a song that'll get on your nerves" in a Joe Pasquale stylee; or p*ss*ng themselves at others trying to read limericks and tongue twisters.

Donkey's years ago I did a 44m chamber dive and they gave us some stupid test to do.

Total waste of time. The instructions didn't make sense and the drawings we were supposed to match up were nothing like one another.

They gave us another test later after the dive but it couldn't have been the same thing as it was just too easy.

Anybody close to Plymouth with some spare hours during the week, give DDRC a ring in Plymouth, ask for Graham and you might get a ride in the pot!

They are currently doing research and need volunteers.

Migth not start twitching but I was coughing like a 70yr old miner afterwards. The O2 soaks really knacker your lungs for the next couple of days.

Pizza? I got some digestives and watery orange squash. I suppose that's what happens when you drive yourself in a 2am Never mind, the Wirral chamber is housed in a BUPA hospital, the massive breakfast and cable TV in a private room the next day more than made up for the lack of nosh.

Yes you can, get 8 people on a 50m dry dive, you get a lot of people sounding like donald duck on speed and a whole lot of hysterics.

I hear you on the fried lungs

I had decent pizza and was really well looked after. I was, however, hearing the words "On O2, Off O2" in my sleep for weeks

You should try sharing the pot with someone who ordered a garlic pizza with extra garlic

I gave it a miss.

Did a dry dive in Malta as an addon to my TDI courses and we all got narked to various degrees at 40m.

Seemed ok, first person tried to speak, sounded like micky mouse, whole chamber burst out laughing and went downhill from there.
Maths quizzes were slow and sluggish (except oddly for me that managed it faster than at sea level), unfunny things were funny including the balloon inflated latex glove, tennis ball and so on.

Tried the hard boiled egg experiment that DIDNT work and resulted in the chamber and doctor being covered in egg. More laughter.

The other REALLY noticeable thing was how dense the air was when you tried to wave your hand through it - you put it down to a badly serviced reg in the sea but in reality air is thick down there.

All in all chamber dive was very informative and you definitely can get narked if they take you deep enough although i suspect on a proper treatment you dont hit that sort of depth.

All it did was upset me, realise how bad air was at depth and realise i still cant afford trimix.
