ok, everyone interested in this, send me your nike+id so I can invite you to the challenge. Obviously it won't kick off until the 1st.

I'll post daily screenshots of the challenge results on here

You don't have to have an iPod to register but the way it works is that the software in the iPod picks up how many footfalls you have, converts that into a distance and then you upload that data to the Nike+ site and it does all the rest. I don't think that you can upload to the Nike+ site without one.

However, I have just bought an 8Gb iPod Nano 2nd gen from Ebay for £75 and the Nike+ is £20 so just 2 mix dives for the motivation . I am sure you can pick up a 2Gb 2nd Gen for not a lot. edit: just had a look, going rate is between £30 and £50 for a 2gb machine.

If you want more motivation and don't want to join this, I am sure there are other online running clubs where you can upload your data to. I will see what I can find later but then you won't be in the big YD family

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

Oh heck - I haven't actually used the Nike+ thingy for so long I can't remember the ID. I will find it and PM it too you.

The humiliation of permanently lagging behind might get me out running - along with discovering that none of my interview suits fit me anymore and if all goes well, I might need one!

Team motivation is a great thing. We Chimps have been egging each other on and an in 3 weeks three of us have lost 32.5lbs between us which isn't a bad thing!

Just getting the others involved now and we should be able to munch on those bananas without too much fear of being called fat chimps

Thanks for the advice Gareth but I can't spend any money on this.

I can see why Garf wants to use Nike - it's just a shame it restricts who can join in with an excellent idea to get us all motivated

Hmm - If it was bannanas I was eating rather than biscuits I wouldn't be in this state!

Having just plugged my iPod in my last run logged was 11miles - very depressing since 4 miles on Friday was definitely my limit! Still, I'm sure I can drag the fitness back somehow. Just have to work it around writing a thesis

But yes, team motivation is good!

Can someone who uses this tell me:

a) what i would need to spend to be able to use it?
b) is it addictive? If its addictive i have no problem using it as it stops being exercise whcih i am actually totally allergic to

When I bought mine the sensor was £30 - It is supposed to go in special (very expensive) Nike trainers but I simply attached mine to my trainers under my laces using a strip of velcro (a quick google search will reveal multiple ways to do this). The iPod I use is a (I think) a 1st gen nanno (white one) that I bought new for £60 when the 2nd gen came out - they will be much cheaper now and the 2nd gen will prob be that price or cheaper. You can then just stick the nanno in a pocket but I find it comfier and more accessible in an armband - mine was £5 off e-bay.

So... the way I did it, total spend £100, could probably be done for <£80 with a 2nd hand nanno.

It was utterly addictive for a long time - the 'power song' is a genius idea, a specific track you can choose which always gives you a boost that you select really easily while you are running. I like being able to add up how I've done too.

I fell off the excersise wagon about 3 months ago when my first half marathon wiped me out to be followed by a series of colds and a PhD thesis! I am now resolving that if this challenge gets me running again I will enter another proper triathlon in May....

See you are all going to be a good influence

Come on Helen - I don't want to be the only girl!!
