SInce then done a fair few dives and never noticed a problem.

I actually prefer to take a steroid inhaler as it prevents the likelihood in advance. My doctor says with the two combined i shouldnt be seeing any problems.
its interesting, and worrying, how the advice differs. My doc said the opposite, along the lines of if you think you need the releiver then you shouldnt be diving, and the steriod only prevents on a long term basis. I take mine in the morning as usual and luckily havnt needed the releiver in a long time.

unfortunately, the information just isn't there, so doctors give a mixture of their best assessment of current research and personal opinion. it is disconcerting when 'experts' give different advice, but what can you do.

here's an opinion*: if you need your reliever then take it and don't dive. as for using a reliever after a dive, personally i'd rather avoid an acute asthma attack than worry about a theoretical increased risk of DCS.

*but, you know your body better than i do and it's your life.

I have been thinking about this NO thing and DCS.

How about you do us ALL a favour and test it for all the bodybuilder/divers out there

Generally, After a day of deep diving, I find working out pretty in effective. Especially after screwing up on decompression.....

IMHO go do your workouts early in the morning 2 or 3 hours before your boat leaves. That should give you more than enough time to feel safer. (And I do mean FEEL safer, as there is nothing to suggest any danger)

A complete tangent, but I should think that all other things being equal, you body builders are at much less risk of a diving incident than the pie eating fatties that seem to frequent our shores

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll bring some along then and see how we go!

My friend in the US dives and takes NO supplements but I don't know if he does it immediately before going on a dive!

I'll let you know when we get back in July (or ancl will!)

Best wishes

calski

As a random suggestion, have you tried contacting the LDC?

Dr. Jules IMHO is an awesome dude, perhaps he will be able to help you. I have found him to be a very knowledgable and helpful.

You can email him via the LDC (london diving chamber) website.

or the DDRC?

To be honest I'm not sure one way or the other. A lot more research would be necessary before we could make solid recommendations. (Gets off the fence).

Duke references, finally, some that are easy to remember.

You guys might find these interesting... Ivan and Claude have been looking at NO for a while.

There's nowt wrong with a pie and beer is a well recognised form of decompression fluid. We are not fat, we are evolving as marine mammals, when was the last time you saw a thin seal? If you dive Uk waters all year round, having an extra layer of blubber is a good thing.
