| I am just over 5 weeks from having partial knee replacements to both knees. I have been doing some walking each day but yesterday my surgeon asked me how far I was now walking, I think he was joking when he suggested a couple of miles, so coming home today I measured a half mile and a mile in the car. 6 weeks ago, 50 yards was painful now I can look forward to longer walks and getting fitter. I have been waiting for these operations for a couple of years but my surgeon was reluctant to do them as I was still "fairly young" and they will need doing again. If anyone is in the position of needing knee replacements I would say go for it and I don't think you will regret it. It isn't easy having them both done together, I was told I was mad, but it isn't that hard either. I thought it would be a lot harder having read some knee replacements forums - yes there is a forum for everything I remember a chap posting on the BSAC forum that his wife was thinking of having them done but I don't think they have been back with an update, hopefully she is doing well also. Anyway my mile took me 30mins so I won't be breaking any records for a while but it's a start, although it was a busy road and very noisy so I need to find another route. |

| Great news Fiona. I am so pleased you are getting out and about and that the op seems to have been a success. I think a 30 minute mile is good - I'm a fast walker generally and it probably takes me 20 minutes at normal pace to walk a mile. Good for you! Helen xxx
