London Hyperbaric Chamber

Just a quick note that to remind people that they offer free advice about dive related problems - they get back to you very quickly. I made a query regarding medication and an injury, and they got back to me within an hour. Good, clear, practical and non-judgemental advice.

Just another example of the great service they provide to us in the diving community

Was that London Diving Chamber or Whipps Cross?

I have emailed LDC before and they have been really great with their advice

I think they're all really professional.

The guys at Poole and the DDRC in Plymouth have all been really quick to respond and helpful in the past as well.

Keep up the good work!

When I had a potential bend I phoned LDC and they were superb. Living in Ireland they couldn't actually treat me, but the advice was spot on.

I wish the situation was the same in Ireland. Our only chamber was closed down this year. With the exception of a private chamber in Dublin who won't treat CFT divers or none DAN insured divers there are no chambers in Ireland.

You can try your luck with the Navy one in Cork but that's a portable one that's sometimes on a boat so it's a bit of luck if it's there or not.

There is one in NI, but if you get a bend down south you're pretty much screwed because that is a looooooong drive to get up there.

CFT have advised their members to use a chamber attached to a hospital AFAIK. The Dublin chamber treats DAN insured divers and has liability cover from DAN. This was beaten to death on the Tecdiver forum. AFAIK, CFT insurance has a 10,000 euro max liability. My costs for hospital and chamber for 10 days in Spain was 29,000 euro. Add air ambulance to that and a further 200 pot rides with Des................ DAN never flinched. As a consequence of my bend, Des` facility received DAN approval. IMHO the National Hyperbaric Centre is the only facility in Ireland geared for ALL diving emergencies. The 6 man chamber is an 11 bar unit. Get yourself DAN insurance for 67 euro, you cant buy a decent reel for that type of money.

Yup, I have DAN insurance now, it's just a very poor situation.

That's my understanding with CFT as well, but the chamber in Dublin also state they won't treat CFT divers, not just CFT saying don't use it. Seems to be both ways.

I guess it still grips my shit that the Galway chamber is closed without an alternative. I'm just waiting for the new super dooper one to open here.....September I believe it is......yeah right.....jeez I'm a sceptic!!

But still, one private chamber for the whole country!!

Having said that due to overspending the A&E in Galway was going to close down for two months to save money.....how insane is that. At least that has resovled itself and they are closing some of the non-emergency departments instead.

So, for any non-Irish out there...if you visit Ireland, don't get sick cos the healthcare here is that of a developing country!!
