the shoe transmitter thingys apparently do 1000 hours of running and then you need a new one.

Guy at running club has one of the new Garmin GPS watches. Seems to work well other than the fact he has to stand outside for 2 mins on the steps before a run waiting for satellite lock. After that its fine.
I never got pedometers to work accurately enough for me, way too much variation in distance claimed vs real distance so just axed the idea.
10km tonight in 41 mins. Roads freezing and slippery as hell![]()

Well I've done my first run with the thingy. Going again tomorrow, so I'll try and upload stuff then.
Well done to all you fit buggers. I did 3k, which I think is pretty good going for an overweight unfit bloke who is just starting out!!!!
OK, anyone know why my 2009 Mega Miles is 3.28 miles, but in the first to 40 miles it's coming up as feck all, something like 1 mile. Suggestions?
Ran another 1km just trying to calibrate the thing, then gave up, and it worked out roughly what I was doing anyhow. I don't get the technology, but more than that I really don't get how it has any clue how far I've run, but it's only about 5-10% low, so I'm not losing any sleep over it.
Digs.
Bollocks, one mile off and to the back of class, the scale is different. I am a cock.
I'm not looking at that 40 mile one again, it makes my runs look insignificant.

with an iron will power.
Fact is, you can win by doing a short run every day. You've only got to do 1-2K a day and you'll keep up with the big runners on here. Of course, if you do 1-2K a week, then you're not going to be competitive.
For me, winning is not coming last. If that means beating someone who can't work their Nike+ thingy, then that at least will be an intellectual victory, if a little hollow
I'd also like to build up to some good times later in the year, and this is a really good way to start. I am at the gym far more often than I would be, and the only thing that got me there last night was so that I could add to the total, and get fitter so that I could do 4-5K runs in an evening without dying.
Still a bit pissed off that my 4.5K didn't count from the other day. Isn't there some way of manually adding these? There must be loads of people who have got time and distance from a running machine and could manually add them when their Nike+ gets screwed.
Digs.

It's not for it's accuracy, I know it's undercounting distance probably by about 2 miles by now but that's not the point, well for me anyway. I've run about 30+ miles so far this month but it's the motivation from checking how people are doing on YD and the fact there are a few of us having a go.
When I was heavily into my running in 99/00 it was because I had a specific motivation, one of the guys I was in College with, had been an international runner and we had a bet over the Cardiff 10K. This is similar for me, something to train for, try and win one of the competitions, external motivation, etc.
On Saturday night I agreed to do New York, if I can get a place with one of the UK charities that take part, so this challenge will help with that too. especially if I do get a place.
Finally, do we have a group name on Nike+ as I'd liek to see how others are doing
