Have a search in this forum. There is a lots of information about it including information from those who have had an op and come out the other side ok, but also from those who have had an op and it hasn't sorted it.
You say that you aren't giving up diving, but is it worth it? Also depends on how bad the PFO is and if anything else is linked, like shunt.
Your decision...

I've been diving for 15 and I only had it twice in last year... Diving is my life... so you can understand but if faced with painful truth you never know... but have not had the tests so hopefully just trying to find out some opinions from post op divers...
Have a read through, plenty of opinions and just recently someone who went for a PFO test and found he has a shunt; diving over despite it being his life...

Gareth

just had mine stiched, at the same time as quintuple bypass. Got to wait till June before I get wet again. Don't know if it worked yet.
Diving is life, the rest is just surface interval!
I'd say get tested 1st and then worry about the closure if you have one. I guess you've had a unexplained hit?
I was alerted to mine by been a Migraine with aura sufferer, never actually got bent but had several migraines after dives. Deep and Shallow on air, been diving EAN 40% (Nitrox) for the last 4 years to a max of 25m computer set to air. Very conservative diving but seems to have worked for me
Had the closure done twice 1st one failed, had 2nd done at xmas and am back at the hospital today for a 3 month post op check up then all been well another bubble study in around 3 months time. Clear this time I hope
All been well should be able to stop taking aspirin today

I am going to get myself tested...
I think i got skin bends twice but not really sure - same place, abdominal area - not too sore just very very wary of the skin - sunburn type. Cleared in 6 hours. The base layer was washed recently in the same detergent as everything else so this not an issue. The two dives I did were totally different first drift 30mtr with 12 mins on deco and the most recent one 24mtr wreck - deep stop on 12 mts and surfaced with 2 mins on 6 mts and my mate had 3 mins more so stayed with him. Definitely not dehydrated. The water 7deg but I did not even get cool.
I have been diving for over 15 years no problems like this before and certainly no migraines only morning headaches - but I know the reason for the latter.
So utterly baffled
Ali, I hope you get all clear!
all the best
Greg
Hi Greg
This is my suggestion, as I'm recently in the same boat as you.
Give the Medical Referee a ring ( or email ).
yours' would appear to be : -

Tel: 01624 676622
Fax: 01624 674515
And have a chat with them. They will advise on what to do next.
Hope you get sorted soon.
