This may or may not be totally off the mark but...

A long time ago I had what I thought was a really well fitting mask except I kept coming up with an uncomfortable fore head just between the eyebrows. Turned out the mask was actually pressing just above the bridge of my nose. The strap wasn't to tight, I wasn't suffering from mask squeeze (no mask impressions left on my face after the dive) just the wrong shaped mask for my face. New mask - problem disappeared.
