I have read the study that you posted the link for and i do think that 10 people arent really enough to draw a conclusion though i can see the benefit of these studies.

If you can stay calm, while all around you is chaos... then you probably haven't completely understood the seriousness of the situation.

I read another study, some time ago, that did a double blind test which advised some of the subjects that the gas they would breathe would give them narcosis and the others that it would not. There was a larger correlation of narcosis with the subjects told they might get it than with the subjects told they probably would not; regardless of the actual gas they breathed.
Go figure.
If I had more time I could dig out the link but I have to do some w*rk....
there seems to be a lot of non quoteable double blind reports being done at the moment .
I use commas,,,,,,,,,,,,, in an artistic way!
I'm beginning to think that the He might be worth considering - in some cases.
I belive that He is supposed to be 0.23 times as narcotic as N2, so with smaller fractions/percentages/amounts He in the mix it's nacotic effect is not going to be significantly different from treating it as non-narcotic.
However where larger fractions/percentages/amounts of He is used then the narcotic effect may not be able to be discounted.
What is defined as "smaller" and "larger" I've no idea.

Do not despise the snake for having no horns, for who is to say it will not become a dragon! So may one just man become an army.

One of the most noticable things about narcosis is that if you ascend just a couple of meters quickly it clears. Now that doesn't make any sense in a solubility model or any O2 is/isn't narcotic consideration.
It is, however, good enough to go in many diving manuals and where I've seen it used (including had it used on me) it has never failed.
