Extreme Ironing Event - 10 January 2009 - NDAC - Raise Money For RNLI
This thread has now been superseded with more details here

Another challenge which the tin rattlers and Air Guzzler have been discussing is to break an extreme ironing event - the most number of divers underwater ironing at the same time and raise money for the RNLI at the same time. The record is currently held at 72 by an Australian group.
We reckon that YD can do better than that, so here is your opportunity to join in.
GLOC has been in discussion with Darren at the NDAC. Darren has proposed the 10 January 2009 as a date. This will allow plenty of awareness to be raised using the variety of forum and media available to us. It will also allow us to get our hands on a suitable number of irons and ironing boards (extension leads not required!!). If you have an iron and board spare, bring them along, otherwise we will be sourcing some through Freecycle.
Costs are going to be in the region of £20 to include a donation to the RNLI. The reason I cannot be exact is because Darren was originally going to include a T-shirt and certificate for the Guinness World Record attempt, but it appears the GWRB aren't interested in this event. This paragraph will be updated as soon as GLOC has the information from Darren.
There are some rules pertaining to the event:
Board size: A miniature board is ok (although we prefer to see full sized boards wherever possible). However, it can't be one of those tiny boards. It needs to be at least 1 metre long, 30 centimeters at the widest point and have legs.
Irons: No plastic toys irons, they must be real irons. Travel irons are fine.
Garment: Any garment is suitable, but it must be at least the size of a tea towel. It's hardly impressive to iron a handkerchief.
Ironing: There must be visual proof of ironing (a photo or video clip) and it should be at a recognisable and verifiable landmark. For example, there's enough pictures of the top of Everest to verify that one. And, it sounds stupid, but you MUST be outdoors - no indoor ironing counts.
Numbers:One Iron/Board/Item to be ironed per person
At least one TV company has expressed some interest in this and I am sure after Lloyds success in securing a BBC news crew for the Santa event, he might be able to do the same for this event. I know that Darren is very keen to support this for obvious PR reasons (and also because he is a bloody nice chap)
If you have any other questions, please add them to this thread. To sign up, look at this thread

We have also set up a face book site to allow the world to add comments and well wishes for our record attempt.
I will update the YD list from the face book site for non YD members.

09:30-10:00 divers enter water as group of 4 (and close to other 12 in photo/video group). Place iron/board on bottom & mark position of 4 boards with SMB. Ascend & get back onto pontoon. This period will also be used to set up freedivers boards
10:50 deep divers descend off deep end to 40-70m with their own photo/videographers.
