life's not fair! That's what i say to mine... all the starving children in the world and you get well fed, entertained, educated and to go skiing, climbing and diving.

It is a bit of a quandary, drysuits for growing kids, maybe you could do loads of stuff to help your dad out and see if he will buy you a second hand suit.. or maybe borrow one . Diving is expensive but I am sure he is happy that you are sharing his hobby.

Bet this thread didn't turn out the way you expected huh devil crab

unfortunately, much as we are all obsessive about diving, dry suits cost a fortune. Frankly, there is no way I'd pay money for a new suit for a lad that was still growing.

That being sais, you might have more luck getting him to agree to a badget and seeing if you can pick one up off ebay or second hand somewhere.

Good luck

Do you think this is fair?
I'm diving in a semi off dover!!!!
looks like you're not getting much sympathy mate

how much diving are you thinking of doing over the winter? if it's not a huge amount maybe your dad would consider hiring a suit for you? perhaps a friendly shop would give you a discount if you explain your situation and say you'll definitely hire a suit X times over the winter? just an idea. it's definitely a waste of money to buy a good drysuit if you're going to grow out of it - i suppose you could always buy an old one off ebay or ex-rental, and re-sell it later, but that could end up biting you on the ass.....

what is a badget?

A financially aware conscious badger
A small badge collecting diver

PS
Be patient wait until you have stopped growing and then purchase the drysuit. At £5-700 for suit and undersuit it is a lot of money to get wrong.

Mate, consider yourself lucky, when I was your age I had a paper round in Beirut.

And you think you've got it hard?

Far too easy.............

A semi-dry, off Dover? Why lad that's positively tropical! Take a trip up to South Shields and try plopping in off the Tyne, then you'll know what cold is!

Joking aside, several of my mates dive in 5mm & 7mm semi's in the North Sea over summer (about 12-13 degrees) and in fresh water during winter (a tad colder) and are probably as warm as I am in my drysuit and Weezle. I'd do it myself but stripping off in car parks in the middle of winter is just not my scene man........

Sorry to agree, but drysuits are too expensive to have to replace in a few month's time just 'cos you've got a growth spurt on!

OK, how about a compromise, tell your dad that if he buys you a dry suit now and you grow out of it you will sell it on Ebay and you will pay the difference between what you get for it and the cost of a new one yourself.

If he will buy you one when youu have stopped growing then there should be no difference between buting it now or later BUT you have to pay the difference.

I bought my 15 year old (who incidently hasnt grown an inch in the past four years) a whole new kit, Drysuit, undersuit, thermals, bcd, regs etc etc 18months ago and they've only seen water twice. Now that is the biggest waste of money Ive ever spent but if I threaten to sell it all I get is grief from her. You win some you LOOOOOSE MORE
