Chris

Hmmmmmmmm I asume your not UK diving?

Defo need a surface signaling device in the UK, defo need a torch, defo need line cutters???

Spare mask is optional if you think you can control your ascent rate and are no deco diving, strobe is optional but if your lost at sea and it gets dark your going to wish you had one.

Looking down Bogwoppit's list going nod, nod.

A hood? or is that included in the suit?

Swap the socks for weezle booties or the equivalent. One of the best moves I made. My demonstration quality cramp release is now a forgotten art.

Double up on the cutting devices. Trauma shears beat knives as the only thing I have ever had to cut is mono-filament fishing line hitched round my fin straps.

I tend not to take a compass.

Clips to stop the danglies.

Air tables stuffed in a pocket.

Spare mask (optional)

Alternatively, you can wear mask strap under hood, less likely to loose it...

I've just stopped doing this - I found the hood wasn't sealing properly round my face, and water was flushing through and making me cold. It used to work well with my old mask, but the new one has a different profile. With temperatures dropping it was getting uncomfortable.

So now I'm warmer, and carrying a spare mask...

Good points Nigel, must admit to forgetting the the Hood Doh!

I also agree with th booties but I was going for minimums I guess.. Tables okAY guv'nor you got me there as well. But I do tend to leave mine in my bag onboard as I plan my dives and know what I am up to. (This is where the cheapo bottom timer kicks in).

I have to admit to taking my compass everywhere though, I also try and take a bearing on land and then use it to orientate myself on the wrecks using that bearing.

If no jelly sweets then large amounts of Jaffa cakes

As for the car, Santa will be bringing me a nice shiny top box, just for clothing mind, nowt spectacular
Did look at purchasing a van, but would cost too much

As for the kit, the list will never end, agree with the spares though.
As for strobe, we (me an Scubachick) use Glo toobs, small and compact, just right..
Always a spare torch, just enough to get by if the main fails, did look for an LED one at the show, but was told that all the YDer's had been buying'em.

all of the above and...

you may end up buying a second cylinder.. many trips will be "bring gas for two dives".

And A rescue course... as soon as you have mastered the basics. For UK sea diving I think that's the training level that will equip you well. A lot of it is about self rescue, incident pits and how not to climb into them... essential!
