Whilst I see the idea, and its certainly inventive, I would suggest having some option for permanent linkage so if you lose buoyancy you might want to have the SMB providing winching you to the surface type lift

I have clipped off to the SMB once in the past because I was worried about passing out on a deco stop. (I was not a well bunny) it was nice to know if I did I wouldn’t just sink down and my buddy would have time to consider options.

Eeek! That's the point where I have promised myself I will unzip one of my pockets, take out a 2Kilo bag and hold it. The theory being that loosing that means I'm on the way up. Agreed clipping of the reel is the least worst case there.
