and i'm not sure there's much call for a knife in the red sea - unless you're

1) fending off very small tiger sharks (with your 2 inch blade)
2) cutting your way through the entanglement hazard of anemone tentacles (what were you doing going into a clownfish's home without reeling off any way?)
3) urrgh.... that's all i could think of?

or stabbing Italians up the arse for stomping on the coral on snorkelling trips. However, I am in no way condoning xenophobia, just italiansnorkellophobia.

Enjoy...................

I never dive with a snorkel but I ALWAYS take one on dive trips abroad. So far I have snorkelled with manta rays, whale sharks, dolphins, white tip sharks, black tip sharks and schooling hammerhead sharks.

To date I have never regretted having a snorkel stashed somewhere (usually on the boat) but I have frequently regretted not having one.

two weeks ago we were in the red sea (sigh... seems such a long time ago now). We came up after the dive and the rhibs were stuck inside the lagoon. Did we want to wait hours for the situation to be resolved..... No, we swam, face down, snorkelling along the edge of the reef, enjoying the sights, as we returned to the liveaboard (which was 700m away)

Ok, this doesn't happen every week... but you get the point - it helps to be prepared
