Right, I'm bored and it's Saturday afternoon. We won the rugby which is goign to help, but this attitude is such a load of horse shit I feel the need to step in.

Now then, let's see. We're all for supporting the LDS, but soem of them need to realise that there are limits to this. I won't buy something at double the price just because they're local, most of the stuff I use my LDS for will be small items and gas fills (they've started doing trimix because we asked them to, and we will use them and pay the slightly higher price as a result). I can see and try on dive gear any time I like. I'll ask some of my mates hwo use it to use it for a dive, see how I get on. My LDS won't let me do this, if they did I would probably buy from them, but then their stock would get knackered. Often you can save a whole lot more than a few quid online.

What really gets up my arse are the mupetts who think they are kit experts (and every clubs got one!) and 'give sound advice' to the clubs new divers about exactly what they should be diving with, christ! if the average bearded grumbly had their way, we'd all be head to toe black neoprene, twinsets for babacoombe, and the hideous abortion that are the early Buddy ABLJ's.

YOu sound really bitter about this, them trying to save you hundreds of pounds on the latest fad, buying a heap of shite that they've tried out and found was completely useless. People ask me for my opinion on dive gear a lot, I don't know many who have followed it and been disappointed. No beard, but I'll grumble when a newbie like you comes along and tries to tell me I've been doing it wrong for the last however many seasons. I've been where you are, and it cost me plenty, I don't make the mistakes any more, because I ask for and listen to those who know. You don't, and as a result I would expect others to discount your views. They should.

So, my advise is, YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON THAT HAS TO USE YOUR KIT, don't be a sheep! BUY WHAT YOU WANT and hey, here's an idea, why not have a chat with someone in a dive shop?!
|
Because they're here to make a profit, and will sell you utter crap if it needs to go, if there's something new coming in from the suppliers, and if you look like you're at the ready with your credit card. I've seen it and I hate it. It's crap, but then some LDSs are crap. How do these people know the difference between good and bad? Oh yes, advice!!!

who deals with the items day in, day out, and not playing at bieng a proffesional.

I have lost count of the number of people working in the LDS who can barely dive. They are not in a position to tell you what is any good for your needs a lot of the time. THey do, however know what their boss wants sold because there's a healthy profit to be made.

Besides all of this, think about it seriously, why would a dive centre sell you anything that might be bought back, they want you to be chuffed with it so you come back....not rocket science folks,
|
just because it comes back doesn't mean they're goign to give you your money back, unless it's broken or not fit for purpose they're goign to fob you off, otherwise they'd be out of business

and yes we will pay a little bit extra than online, but you're paying for their time to go through it with you, the fact you can try it, and you get a warrenty
|
you get a warranty wherever you buy, most of them come from manufacturers,

and yes i'm a fan of my local shop.
Knowing what i've passed off to idiots on e-bay

don't you feel that's a bit irresponsible? Selling divers crap? Or did your policy of buying at the LDS go wrong? Possibly because you're a sucker and they know it
And pay plenty for it.
I'd suggest speak less and listen more. You are recognisable as a stage in a divers life where they think they know it all and need to recognise how little they actually know. Could you give a brief run-down of the gear you use and what you're using them for? It would give me a better idea of how you've ended up at these conclusions.
Digs.
God, I quite enjoyed that. I think I'll have a rant more often.
