I am using Cressi Ellipse Titanium (first/second stage) and Ellipse Octopus. I have found these fantastic regs as a first set, tough they are quite expecnsive. I bought mine from Denny Diving and cost about £400 but that included all the regs, a console (Cressi 2 gauge and compass) and a reg bag. I have never has any problems with them other than a freeflow in water at 5 degrees (Stoney Cove). They are comfortable with their best feature being low profile and good hydrodynamics.

What Woz said. DS4 and whatever first stage he mentions at £125 is super. They are great regs in every way I can think of. The fact that they are "cheap" is an added bonus and not a poser drawback at all.

Another option for you:

When I started, I bought an Oceanic CDX-5 / Alpha 7. Those regs consistently got rated highly, often as well as regs costing twice the amount. They've done 200-odd dives since then with patchy servicing and little maintenance I have had absolutely no problems with them whatsoever and I am still happy to use them.

The Alpha 7 has turned into the Alpha 8 now - I imagine that they're basically the same.

With an Alpha 8 octopus included that's £210 from SDS.

I'm cynical of dive mags reviews. When did you last see a product from a major manufacturer (read: advertiser) get a bad review?

Best get some real opinions from places such as this.

Oceanic Regs are good

Hi,

90% of people at our Club dive Apex, I decided, after lots of advice from my LDS to buy an Oceanic Delta4/Oceanic Alpha 8 Octo/Oceanic Swiv Navcon Triple console for £450 - lots of money, but free parts servicing and warranty for LIFE.

Lots of people at the Club scoffed at them whilst I was in the pool until our Training Officer stuck one in his gob in the water - he was a rank APEKS fan, and instantly loved the Delta 4.

Not into the I've got something better than someone else business - I bought these regs because they were right for ME and I liked them, just trying to point out there are other options other than APEKS, APEKS, APEKS.
