Talking First set of regs

As a relative newbie to the sport i'm trying to accumilate my kit now seems to be the time to invest in some regs but cannot find any reports other than the word of the salesman who generaly will try to sell you (in there opinion the right one) at a special price most of the time with around 25% added Which generally makes me get a little frustrated.
Has any one got and reports from dive mags

Hopefully awaiting a reply

I would give Atlantis diving a call or email www.atlantis-dive.de and pick yourself up an Apeks ATX100 with ATX40 octo for next to bugger all. A 1st/2nd combo was £205 delivered. IIRC adding an octo puts it up to about £250. You'll need a gauge to nail to it but I'm sure they can sort out a nice little Suunto one for you.

The website is in german and they don't do online shopping but don't let that put you off.

Thumbs up

You wont go wrong if you get Apeks regs!
They are priced well and easily serviced if you get TX40 you get cold water spec regs for cheaper than other manufacturers non seald regs.
They will cope with any depth and therefore you won't need to upgrade as you progress!
hope that is of help

SDS doing TX40 with DS1 1st stage for £125 at the mo. Flogging it as a pony reg but get 2 and they will last you throughout your diving career.

The only problem with the DS1 is the lack of medium presure ports they are fine if you are getting twins or a pony as then you will have two first stages but if you are going two use single tanks and one first stage you realy need a DS4 as it has more ports to acomodate your octopus and main reg and SPG and jacket inflator with a dry suit hose if needed

I'm not sure but I think Diver magazine or Dive International featured some comparative articles on regulators either last year or the year before.
Best advise is that regs are very subjective, what's an easy breather to me could be a hard breather to someone else.
I'd suggest you find a dive shop that could give you the opportunity to test various regs in a pool. That could give you a good idea. Failing that try renting various modles, this will give you a pretty good personal experience base to make your choice.

Forgot to say it's a good idea to get DIN fitting rather than A clamp and with the apeks that means you are getting 300 BAR compatable regs!
