REG: Apex TX100 or maybe MARES ABYSS. both din setting
BCD: Aqualung Pro QD +Sure Lock or Scubapro Glide 2000
Cylinder: 15Ltr or 18Ltr Faber

Have already

Also need to get a dry suit but will get that once i have everything else. i can rent for now.

I am planning on using everything in the UK as well as abroad so need to get equipment that i can use in all locations not that i would be taking the semi dry to Sharm if i ever go

any comments on the kit that i am looking to get would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

kit

Hiya,

TX 100 and Glide 2000 have done me for donkeys years and are still going strong after 1000's of dives so they'd be my choice. No one needs an 18 ltr so get yourself the 15 ltr cylinder.

You might find a semi dry comes in handy in the Red Sea in winter!

Enjoy!

Kev

Check out the posts by Woz, he has found a very good deal on the Apeks regs from Germany, in the order of £200 delivered for the ATX100.

If you can't find the information in the thread, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you sent him a PM asking about it, as he is a very nice man

PS I've got a 15L cylinder if you are interested, a little redundant since going 'twins'.

Hi

I'd get a 12ltr cylinder. It will stand you in good stead should you ever move to a twinset. You can do plenty of good dives on a 12 and if you have to, you could get a pony for redundancy. (I wouldn't, but thats just me ) If you start to do two dive days on boats then you may need two.

I would also recommend a single tank wing, but that really depends on what your instructors dive with and recommend. You might want to try a setup first, and many people on the forum can help with that, and a few suppliers too.

I also use Apeks regs, and can report no problems. Easily serviceable and standard hoses (for the most part). One thing no-one has mentioned is get DIN fittings, not A-clamp.

Finally, think about the diving you want to do, whether it be reef, cave, wreck, or quarry(?!), and look at the gear used by the divers who are already doing it. That should hopefully prevent purchasing something which you need to offload later.

Hope that helps

Andy

Thumbs up

i was in a similar position to you a year ago, i bought semi dry, bcd etc. people will tell you to get a wing and a drysuit you should listen its good advice! dont be afraid of a drysuit just get a bit of tuition or do a course its not rocket science and you will do more diving than you would in a semi!
ps if you are intent on a bcd i have one and a drysuit for sale see the personal ads, cheers, mark.

How did you know that i use a lot of air when diving
suppose most newbies have the same problem

Also why the wing instead of jacket

Thumbs up deffinately try a wing!

Give a wing a go before you buy anything - I did, and bought a Tekwing (around £160). If you don't like it, then go back to the original plan. At least then you will know!

Apeks regs are good. I have ATX200.

I've had a Glide 2000 for six years and it still does the job at home and abroad, if a bit faded from teaching in swimming pools.
The integrated weights are nice and the trim weight pockets are handy with ali tanks. Good dumps. Having said that the pockets are fairly useless if you use the integrated weights.

There are a lot of wing fans around here and it's not a bad idea to try some different things. I wouldn't discount a BCD on that basis though - it should still prove to be a good investment.
