One bit of advice - odd though it may be, measure your fins and ensure they will fit in whatever you pick! They are the only bit of kit that is really difficult to pack!

Hi Sue

I did spot that bcd and it was one of the reasons I asked about womens ones. I've never dived wearing a female bcd, I wasn't sure whether the extra cost was justified? I did try a Beuchat one but found that too bulky.

how "female" do you need to be to make them worth it!?!

Lou - funny you should say that I did have a moment of genius & measured them before I dug out my suitcase from the loft!

send a pm to Buoyant Babe ( helen ) she's very friendly, and she's not the type to sell it to you, if it's not right for you.

I have exactly the same BCD (mine was bought second hand as well) and it is great, and I know of several others that have one too.

Like Jim said - drop Helen a PM, I'm sure you can arrange between yourselves giving it a go.

As for the female form - I am not overly 'endowed'

Sue

Not being female I cant comment but I can say that in all honesty a BCD is just a bag of air and basically they all do the same thing.

In that way they are pretty damn safe to buy second han, no need at all to buy a new one!

I have been diving less than a year and I keep changing what I think is right, First of all I bought a BCD with zillions of pockets and d rings and lots of lift, wing like thing. Seilling it now, its a decent BCD but in all honesty its too bulky.

Its on ebay as 99 pence no reserve ends Sunday..
The more I dive the more I start to get my own opinions of whats right and wrong for me, Honestly I bought my own gear too early!

BCD = small and compact especially if you plan on going holidays

Geeko is basic but it works, it can even do nitrox mixes (I think to 40%)
It doesnt have software upload (offically) and it dont have a backlight.

Personally id spend a little extra and get a Suunto Vyper (save the money from the BAG)

Do what the others have said, dont waste cash on a big flashy bag, use the money for other stuff!

This combo should do you a long long time, its also high spec, you could lower the spec a bit and still have nice regs.
Get DIN fitting as already suggested, its normally only a few pounds more buying from new and you wont regret it.

Look at the shop and they have the scubapro model you want. Looks quite cheap

Cheers

Adam.

P.s, you will buy your gear, do some dives then realise you need to buy it all again to feel comfy ....

thanks everyone! You've given me alot to think about . . .

Bag - A flashy dive one, scrapped! I'm definitely going for the cheap Argos option.

Regs - Thanks Adam & Mark for the ebay shop, would never have looked there before.

Computer - Geeko is still a fav but last night some of the club members had brought along their dive logs printed from the pc which looked great so now tempted to spend more!

BCD - Don't have a clue, might continue hiring for the time being and keeping looking around for a basic second hand one.

Thanks again everyone,
In debt but very excited Bex!
