is this worth buying?

hi,
i have just bought my BCD (a buddy commando) and i was looking to get more bits 'as and when'
then my mrs found this on ebay- eBay.co.uk: Regulator, octopus twin gauge set Brand New !! (item 180017732711 end time 14-Aug-06 10:17:34 BST)

what do you think?
is it worth buying as a starter set? at least its a new set, i'm not sure i would be happy with a second hand set

Specification
1st Stage Unbalanced Piston
3 LP Ports
1 HP Ports

2nd Stage
2 Exhaust Diaphragms

I would say no - if you look above it only has 3 LP ports and if you are going to be using a drysuit and a single tank then you need 4 (1 for main reg, 1 for occy, 1 for drysuit and 1 for BC).

I agree with Lou... it is tempting to go cheap with the first bit - better to have but not to have, but remember, this has to keep you alive, I would rather spend on these bits than any other...

Check out Robin Hood Watersports, we bought most of our equipment from there and you can get some incredible deals...

Good Luck with it

Hi tiggerbiker,
I agree with all the others, the regs. in question aren't rated for cold water, my LDC has a few sets in and the are naff, cheap n chatty, better off waiting for a decent set as you have said,
good luck in your search

As I've been saying for decades (yawn) there's no really bad gear on the market, just stuff that's not appropriate for the purpose you intend for it. A good reg is a real investment. Glad to hear you're sensible enough to ask as well!

I'd say no again....if you can buy new, you know the history then. If you must buy secondhand, then buy unserviced and get it done at a reputable place yourself. Then you know they have been seviced, and you have comeback if they aren't right. Buy Apeks...you can't go wrong with anything they have as long as its coldwater rated/sealed 1st stage.
