Equipments’ service I’m an instructor, but new in the US. I took my BC and Regulator for service at “NEW SCUBA WORLD” in Union Street, Flushing, I asked for an estimate and got an answer that the guy who gives the service is not at the store and will call me. I left the Reg. & BC at the store and day after a nice guy call me and gave me an estimate for the service - between $140-170, I agree and asked him that if the price will change to call me for approval. When I came 5 days later to get the Reg. & BC, the price jumped to $230, the guy that gave the service wasn’t at the store (only then I got it – He is just give the store service and not working there) and couldn’t be reached. They didn’t want to give me the equipments unless I’ll pay $230, and refuse to take credit card because they was afraid I’ll cancel the payment after I’ll leave the place because of the price changed. I stood like stupid, don’t have cash, the manager threaten me that I will not get my equipments, and I need it for the day after for vacation. But they didn’t want to release it. I had to call the police that came to the store and force him to take my credit card and give me the equipments. Conclusion: Don’t take your equipment to a store that can’t give you the service at the store and it’s only a middle man. Get an estimate on writing. Make sure that the people at the store understand in diving and they are professionals and not only sell peoples. Make sure that the store is with references, and that diving is the main business of the place. Have a safe and fun dive. |
