I prefer the breath off the ATX50 and use the XTX50 as an octopus. Just shows that it may be worth your while trying the different options out.

Smile Apeks range change

Apeks are cutting the ATX series and discounting madly to dealers so there should be some bargains coming over the next 6 months ........rumour says up to 50% off .......so the Dive show might be the place to bargain
db
The 40 or 50 no problem with either and once the 40 is set you rarely need to adjust it and its just an allen key ?

I'm going to aim to go to the London Dive show so if any one sees a strange man stagering about with some flozzies winter warmers on his head its probably me

For those that bought 40s by mistake you might be interested in:

SCUBA products TX40 to TX50 conversion

Should be available in a couple of weeks (looking at no more than GBP10 each including postage - maybe less if there is suffcient interest to get a whole load made)

I think you should go with an ATX 50, as you never know when bring able to wind the wheel out giving you more air after a bit of hard finning in a current may come in handy.

Similarly I would not worry about paying more for the wide exhaust T that you will get with the XTX's(neglible difference anyway IMO), they are essentially the same regs, same performance, your just paying for them being newer and wide exhast T option and the option of having it feed from the left shoulder.

I don't see why you'd want to crank a reg down on trimix. You want your regs just like they are now - bang on. As you get deeper the gas gets thicker (that's a really bad word for it, but simple ) but the helium in the mix will make it easier on the reg. So all in all it should be setup the same as the regs you use now. Easy to crack, delivers gas, not too much, not too little.

You won't be breathing off trimix in the shallows, so no bother there. And you won't be using thick gas deep (narcosis) so no bother there either.

Of course I use the TX50 now and again when I want a reg which I can detune as I won't be breathing off it, and if I do need to use it for extended periods I can turn it up a bit. Like a necklaced reg. But then I don't see it as a necessary, a detuned reg will do the job just fine - if you've had to resort to a necklaced reg you won't be on it for long as you come up to switch gas, and the fact it's not easy as pie is a compromise but a valid one.

Digs.

Flagship scuba In dublin are the main Importer for Apeks in Ireland and usually do EU prices which can be better than UK, Ive not checked out the site yet but worth a look maybe.
The Owner Rory Golden is a friend of mine and has dived the titanic twice(Russian Sub)Not on Apeks regs! but will try and do deals if possible.
