APEKS ATX40/ATX40 is this my BEST BUY?

Ok, I going to have to buy some regs but what the chuff do i know. I don't have the depth of experience to say well i used that one and it felt like this but this one was like that.

Due to the fact that i have yet to buy a tank, fins, weights, computer, biscuits, spare mask ect and i have upcoming renovations on my house before it falls down and SWMBO walks out becuase i have removed the bathroom door again, oh and i'm getting married this year as well - favours, favours for god sakes, what the f**** is that all about??? So as you can see cost is an issue.

What kind of diving do i do? I am about to be a newly qualified Sports Diver and the club does a lot of diving of the North East Coast and St Abbs. Me i kinda like the idea of wrecks (see comment above about the house) and eventually i'd like to qualify as an instructor but one step at a time.

So my question is Divers Wearhouse are doing a package of ATX40 Primary and ATX40 Octopus plus console for £249 is this a good deal or should i be investing in something more?

I'd look at the 50 only because when they inevitably start weeping air you can crank down the cracking pressure easily without getting your toolkit out.

Don't bother with a console. Just get a pressure gauge.

I'm happy with my atx40's, had no problems so far.....however wish I had gone for 50's for the same reason woz mentioned...if i remember correctly you can also change the exhaust on 50's which you cant on 40's

get din though

oh and at the moment go dive have some nice specials on when you buy a set of apeks regs (like with a atx100/50 set and a 12l cylinder for about 360, or 40 more with a quantum comp)

You can't change the exhaust on the ATX range, only the new XTX range.

My setup is a yellow TX40 primary on a 2m hose and a black ATX100 necklaced backup- the ATX nestles under your chin beautifully.

If I had me time again I'd buy a yellow TX50 primary on a DS4 with a black ATX50 backup on a DS4 for the twinset. For a single setup I'd get a yellow TX50 primary on 2m hose and a black ATX50 necklaced backup on a DST.

The 100 and 200 regs in any flavour are a complete waste of money.

Can you hold out til the Dive Show? Might get a bargain, (though just seen the St Abbs reference - London might be too much of a mission)

Go Dive are doing an ATX100 package if that's of any interest, following on from Woz's comment. Also, I agree about the console, but if you don't have a computer or Dtimer, you'll need something to tell the depth, so maybe buy a package with a console to begin with - you can always flog on the console later.

HTH?
alice

EDIT: Just seen later posts - other problem with this Go Dive package is that the first stage they're offering isn't ideal if you want to expand into twins at some point.

You won't be the only person wandering around still pissed. And maybe it could double as a brilliant excuse when you get home? "Look, I didn't mean to spend £500 on kit: I was pissed and thought it was £50 with my double vision." AND alcohol will lessen the pain of expenditure.

Problem solved.
