if you had then you would most likely have read "Charlie and the great glass elevator" [sequel to the Chocolate Factory] and would know from the great and good "Willy wonker" that an Elevator doesn't have to just go up, it can go down and of course sideways.

"well read by 8 year old standards"

I have read that!. What's the monster called, the verminous snid or something.

Thanks for the replies. This is a busy forum, eh?

The tank is something I already own as a shooter. I'll be on the lookout for 232 bar in the future (possibly twins).

My mask fits like a glove (?) and I'm very happy with it, definitely not looking to skimp there. I borrowed a mask for a dive recently and it didn't quite fit. Lead to a miserable dive spent clearing the whole time.

The suit 'should' be okay but I've no shortage of thermals round the place.

To get:
Reel and many, many SMBs
12l 232bar

oh yeah, if nobody's mentioned it yet, make sure your regs are DIN fitting, not A-clamp.

Why not, if your in a club use club gear and borrow other members kit untill you find what you are comfortable with and like. That way could save some expensive kit changes, giving you more money to go diving with. Just get the essentials to start with, good fitting mask, a decent set of fins.

The BCD he's looking at is a cheap one (£150ish I think) so IMHO it's a decent investment. If he wants to change later he could resell for a reasonable amount, or keep as holiday gear or whatever.

IIRC I bought a cheap BC (about £120) when I started out, I used it for 50 odd dives then sold it for about £80 and bought a wing. No regrets about doing it that way at all.
fair point - ignore what i said, I know nothing

not quite true mate... just wanted to put the brakes on the usual YD trend of telling people to get rebreathers before they can even snorkel if you know what I mean! no offence meant.

I can only think you will possibly need 2 orange DSMBs (and maybe 1 yellow - but thats for later on..) and a couple of reels/spools.

From your intro post - you are at the start of your diving journey. Pace yourself and enjoy. Don't rush into things. Borrow where you can and make informed choices rather than rush out and buy what we tell you.. Sure we can tell your about some real white elephants out there (talking of reels (see what I did there?) - the buddy pocket reel comes to mind. It sucks. Really sucks) - but the you will need to make choices on your experiences too.

enjoy.
