<font color='#348781'>'tis that time of year, the LIDS approaches and i'm thinking of going down the wing/bp route with twins.

Since i started diving i've bought loads of kit and only my computer, mask and reel have been purchases that i'm happy with and would make again!

We know that hindsight is 20:20, so with this in mind:

What wing, backplate and harness setup would you go for NOW, knowing what you know now?

I dive both uk and abroad, wetsuit and drysuit perhaps two bp's would be a good idea.... i really don't know?

This thread has probably been done to death, but i want to know what you would go for now rather than what you have!

Unbiased opinions would be cool too!

If I could find it for less than £150, a red DR classic. Otherwise, Buddy RedWing or TekWing.

I like my current steel bp - Combro. The DR alu plate I find a bit annoying, as the groove isn't deep enough - so I might shop around a bit more for a slightly better shaped plate.

Harness - one-piece, same as now.

<font color='#32CD32'>It does all depend on spend.

Budget end (probably good upto twin 10s with one ally 7l stage) I'd go for the buddy wing.

Higher end I'd go for a home rigged harness and backplate with an OMS bladder.

Combro SS plate over here.
OMS Aluminium plate for abroad.

One piece harness on both and Diverite Recwing for either singles or twins.

<font color='#000080'>I think given the chance I'd get a larger wing, probably OMS the way I dive, 100lb. The TekWing is too marginal for the twin 12s and stages, and needs upgrading soon.

I'd also try and keep my regs the same, either go for the cyklons, or stick with the Apeks.

I'd also not have faffed about with different fins etc. and gone straight for the jetfins I have now. They're the logical, no fuss option, and I'm yet to find a fin which I like more in a drysuit.

Diverite Classic wing, or if the budget reached... the halcyon (they've come down in price).

Combro plate......

Diverite one piece harness

This business about needing huge wings puzzles me. My little classic wing happily supported twin 104's (17L each) and an 80 (about 11L), while I was in florida.

Of course... that does rely on using alu stages....

Unbungied wing: Dive right Clasic

Twin set only back plate: Combro

Bungied wing: Custom-divers TDB or OMS

Multitank rig back plate: Custom Divers (IT HAS SLOTS)

The CD TDB rig allowes the option of adding a second bladder for deep wet suit dives and can be rigged for just about any tank configuration using simple cam bands. This is the rig I use.

Harnis one piece IF you can get on with its little quirks. If not then the CD harnes offeres a very adjustable package and has not failed me yet.

I use a buddy redwing (about 110? at the dive show)  and a double thickness backplate from Aleutain dive products (60 quid I think), try http://www.aleutian.co.uk/ if you are interested. Single piece webbing from Underwater Explorers.

I'd recommend Aleutian for a backplate, they'll do one to your spec, and put slots in if you want them. Also they are twice the weight of standard metal backplates so less weight on the weight belt!

Hope that helps

Dave
