Spares and tool kits - what do you carry?

I thought this as good a forum as any for this question, as it should form part of the first set of dive gear just as the actual dive gear should.

I'm just thinking about putting together a spares and tool kit, but wanted to see what other, more experienced divers took along with them.

So, over to you guys. What do you take along on your dive trips as spares and tools?

I have three different sets of spares (plus "other stuff")...

    1) The one I always have with me, in a dry bag.

This one has a spare fin strap, mask strap, a few cable ties, self-amalgamating tape, some line, scissors, double-ended boltsnap, adjustable spanner and set of allen keys. That's for things that break last-minute, since I always have my kit set up, turned on and checked before I leave the car.

    2) The nitrox one.

Not so much for the spares, but in this one I have things like my nitrox analyser, whip, tape, pens, and a few more spares.

    3) The big one.

Usually stays in the car, because (as I said above) I always have my kit set up before I leave the car (and usually before I leave the house). If something is going to break, its more than likely going to be then. So in my big box in the car i've got everything really - line, bungee, scissors, glue, tape, stickers, spanners, allen keys, screw drivers, drysuit wax, a crayon, sudafed, paracetamol, tissues, cable ties, socket set, needle and thread, hose clips, double enders, lighters, reg port plugs, DIN dust caps, inner tube, velcro, carabiners, o-rings, mouthpieces... and probably a lot of other little bits I forgot.

    4) "Other stuff".

Stays at home unless i'm away for a few days at a time. Includes spare hoses, regs, slide-on pockets, wetgloves, dry gloves, that kinda stuff.

Err spare cylinders, regs, BCs, fins, Drysuits, reels, computers, torches

    Ok if it's just me:

    Tools
Allen key set (Tesco had some cheapy bike ones recently).
    Decent shifting spanner.
    Actual set of spanners.
    Wire cutter.
    Pliers
    Stanley Knife
    Scissors.
    Screwdrivers (blade, phillips, pozidrive)

Have a look at all your kit and if you find anything that has a screw
or bolt, make sure you have something that will unscrew it.

    Spares
Ignoring the obvious of all of the above.
Octopus hose (+ adapter if you have a large bore TX40)
Inflator hose (universal fitting same as drysuit)
A-clamp adaptor (if you have dins)
Din adaptor (if you have A-clamp)
    Din cylinder plug.
    Cylinder O rings
    Din O rings
Spare reg plugs (including SPG port)
    Bicycle repair kit (Tescos again)
    Cable ties.
    Duct tape.
    Silicone Grease
    Spare mask
    Spare mask strap complete
Spare fin strap complete and ready to go
    Spare piston clips
    Bungy cord

Bet theres more that I've missed.

    Plus
Me personally on hols, I always take a spare 2nd stage Occi
    and SPG.

Well you can get them for free from me or LDS for a few pence.

Really is the common variety silver duct tape. Patches up a ripped BC or same on anything that breaks on the boat. Just worth having.

Well you wouldnt want to use your camera too much before running a smear over the o'ring, but anything that needs to seal.:[/QUOTE]

    Lol.
Any clip that breaks can be fixed pronto with two cable ties and a
piston clip. Loads of uses, but if you need it secure on the dive, but
be able to detach, then it's a piston clip.

Is that what I know of as a Jubilee clip? I don't recognise the term 'piston' clip

Bah! I'm getting a reputation around here (you're quite right though )

From the product description: High performance strength and adhesion characteristics are excellent for coordinating repairs, color-coding materials and crafting applications

Are they the ones where a...ahem...scantily clad female is used as the image? I guess it's more exciting and eye-catching than a picture of an 'O' ring! Are they any good? The 'O' rings I mean, not the female...
