Don't forget to poke some holes in the top of your hood to let exhaust bubbles out. I used a hot skewer to seal the edges.

No seriously I did.

Or is yours a fancy new style hood with vents built in?

Good Luck

Well yes I do need to, as part of my PADI OW this weekend. Buggerit, I wish I had practiced this in the pool sessions, its not easy and now I'll have to do it in a freezing cold lake!

Thanks to you all for the advice though, much appreciated. And I have no idea if my hood has vents *goes to look* lol.

Make sure you're not wearing the hood when you do this

Practise this at home. You don't need water but do put your gloves on.
Mask off is easy.
Use the 'breathe through a kiss' mind set to keep your nose shut off.
Turn the mask round in your hands and then hold the nose piece to align it.
Strap round the back of your hand.
Mask on face.
Free hand pulls the hood away and lets it snap back over the mask. Just tucking a finger under at your cheek and running it up to your forehead is best. I find doing the far side first easier. If you have lots of hair running the finger right round the top can help
I clear it now to see it isn't leaking.
Pull the strap round the back of your hood.
Hands away from face (confidence) and look at instructor.

Applause!

I have discovered...yes! So didn't need to poke holes in the top. Sharon (Ainsworth) kindly cut the front of my hood to shape though, so that helped. And I'm afraid I binned the gloves completely. It was 13 degrees in the lake so I survived.

So far so good - day 2 of the OW tomorrow, looks like I might just make it after all
