| I'd buy the computer, unless you're planning to go DIR in the very near future, in which case it should be the wing. Any leftover cash, use for going diving.

| What diving do you want to do Rob? I would not change just for the sake of it. Adrian |

| The Torch? No point in going diving if you can't see anything? ![]() |

| FWIW (I've only been diving for a year) I'm with Tom, Bigefeller and Adrian. I'd get the computer and torch and forget the rest until I know for definite what type of diving I want to do in the future. Spend the rest on actual diving - it's no good having the kit if you can't use it If you're planning to stay single / recreational, I'd add a 3l pony to the set up (That's what's missing from my gear - I like the idea of the redundancy) HTH

| Cheers for the responses. Makes sense, the wing is more of a 'because I fancy it' and it's upgradable but like you said nothing wrong with the 'Bulletproof Buddy' for now anyway. I'm leaning towards the Quantum mainly due to the fact that I'm thinking of doing advance nitrox and deco procedures in the not too distant future. As for the torch I haven't been deep and dark enough yet to really need one, but I'm sure that's not far away either. All the best Rob

| I'd get the torch first then the Quantum. It was dark at 20m on Sat. I can still remember doing a dive when I was just starting out where it got pitch black at 25m and it wasn't much fun without a torch. I'd dived on and off that season and had reasonable viz, but as it got to October, the viz suddenly went. Jason

| I have 3 torches - an SL6, and SL4 and the freebie from Diver Magazine. Effective doesn't have to be huge - although the HIDs give off a lovely beam of light I got these quite a while before I bought my Quantum. I too prefer to see where I am under water, and if your computer packs up, you've got a torch to make it easier to read your depth gauge (sp?) and watch. On my 2nd sea dive, my buddy lent me his torch - although the vis was pretty good (I think); the colours came alive in torch light. Ever since then I won't dive without a torch. I was glad of it at about 10m in Holyhead harbour a couple of months later; where I was lucky to see my own fins

If you don't need a good torch buy a cheap torch. If you do need a good torch then I wouldn't buy a GF.

Again, the GF thing is because I thought I'd go for LED and they seemed pretty decent.
