I actually do have a vauge recollection of usingsome Jet fins in my teens but can't really remember what they were like.

I'll certainly be trying some for a comparisson to the Quattros before I buy.

I think the trend for Jetfins has been around long before DIR. It was just called Hogarthian. When we were doing our Cave course in Mexico, I would say that the vast majority of people were in backplate and wings, five d-rings, jetfins, spg on the left, hog-wrapped primary, etc etc etc. But a small minority of these were DIR.

I have a pair of quattros and a pair of jetfins. The quattros are definitely much faster and more powerful, but the jetfins are slightly more manoeverable. I don't swim fast these days so I'm quite happy with the Jetfins.

Granted, but It has been 'popularised' recently by DIR. I myself have nothing against DIR/GUE/etc, etc. I know that this style of diving has been around long before GUE and even the mention of DIR. I often, and I honestly can't emphasize how often I get the piss ripped out of me about being DIR. The truth is though that I think there is tones of merit in the system, and I use lots of it. I just don't like JetFins.

Well, I just went the other way. Just got rid of a set of turtles, and have ended up with a pair of Mares Superchannel (just like the quattros/X3/every other mares avanti fin) and find they're great. Just as good as the turtle.

The only thing is I need to reduce weight at the feet end. I have found myself foot heavy since my move to the Inspo, and this is helping me along the way. Unfortunately for most OC divers this isn't the case, and the heavier fins are a necessity as their gear isn't trimmed out to keep the feet down enough. But then if you use jets/turtles you don't have a problem.

Digs.

QUATTROS are great for diving in current with little effort required, but I do have a problem with them only lasting 9 to11 months before they split. Have tried Vollas which bent alot more and cracked after thirty dives., Force fins which seem to be like the Emperors new clothes, Jet fins that gave me cramp ,Cressi Frogs that snapped off in front of the foot pocket and Turtles that seem to want to kick sideways all the time. So for now I always have a spare pair of Quattros and keep changing the springs .

The fit of the foot pocket wsa a massive draw. They're very very comfortable on long dives or with long swims.

Oh, and they come in red now as well. This season's colour.
