Question Jet Fins?

I know I've not been diving for a while but when I left the water Mares Avanti Quatro ruled the sea, but now I see many folk into the old black Jet Fins. Whats the score have I missed something and should these be my next pair of fins?

I like the look of those spring strap things as well.

I went through a set of Quattros then Volos (with spring straps) before settling on a pair of jet fins I bought dirt cheap off ebay. I have yet to fit my spring straps but they are the best fins I have used. My buddy reckons I'm off like a shot with one kick in comparison to my old Volos.

Jet fins are grand, not quite as fast as my avanti quattros but much, much more manouverable.

Spring straps - nothing comes close for ease of use and robustness.

You have missed a huge black and silver band wagon... Stick with your mares!

The jet fins have been popularised by the DIR revolution, there is a lucid an thoughtful argument for there use here;

DIR Diver - Fins

I personally think they have there place (the 60's), they are heavy, expensive, difficult to get a pair that fits and because the bottom section of the foot pocket starts at the bridge of your foot they tend to cramp you if you use anything but a frog kick. If you still have your Quattros and like them whey bother changing them? You can purchase spring straps for them for around £15-20. If you are set on a pair of this style then look no further than eBay and get an inexpensive clone of the Scubapro ones to try or ask on here there are plenty of people who are kind enough to meet up and let you try theirs for a dive or two.

There are however lots of people on here that will banish me to the pink mask and snorkel vault for dissing them.

HTH

Hmm, I'd like to think I am wearing mine because I like them and they suit my diving. I do have a mind of my own and am able to make rational choices occasionally! The DIR gang may have brought them into the diving public domain, but not being DIR myself I can take or leave them and I chose to take 'em.

Thats cool, though I think you would be in the minority here. although it does make a change from being assimilated.
