This year I'm making the move from a single 15/BCD to twin 12's and wing. What setup do you run and whats the pros and cons of it? I want to be 100% certain I'm getting the gear that suits me, before I hand over my hard earned cash!
Thanks,
Graham.

Diving is the cats pyjamas
Hi Graham
I bought twin 12s last year and I am very happy with my kit.
I bought a Halcyon Evolve with Euro cylinders. The Evolve is a doughnut and so provides buoyancy all around the wing. With the extra length on the cylinders and the buoyancy all the way around I have found it very comfortable and stable in the water.
The Halcyon kit was not the cheapest but it seems to be good quality and the supplier took me diving to get to used to it. I think if you contact any of the main Halcyon suppliers they will let you "try before you buy".
I am sure there are lots of people on here with much more experience so best of luck. My main problem was getting used to the extra weight out of the water! However, in the water using twins has improved my buoyancy and trim.
All the best
Stuart
Hi Graham
I use a Dive Rite Rec wing with a steel backplate and a Dive Rite Transplate harness with twin 12's. The wing has sufficient lift for these and a 12 litre stage on the occasions I have used one.
I only have one set of regs so in order not to keep dismantling every time I dive singles both my 15litres have a H valve.
I have got Euro 12s, that I would not swap out for the world. They are a perfect combination of length and width for me and are very easy to trim out.
I use them with a DiveRite Classic wing. This is fine, but it is a horsehoe shape, which I didn't mind until I got my Frog Indigo single doughnut wing, and I have to say that I do prefer the doughnut on the single, so might be tempted by a Midnight if I changed twin wings.
Wot he said.
The beauty of the Halcyon gear (and similar designs) is it's simplicity and not only as Stuart mentioned do the Halcyon dealers do a "Try before you Buy" if you get your gear from Rich Walker, Brian Alllen, Clare Gledhill or John Kendall I am positive they will all include a orientation dive to get your kit set up correctly and give you pointers in using twins.

I moved onto twin 12's about a year ago - I started with a Scubapro X-tec wing but decided that I didn't like the cluttered harness and bungee'd 100lb wing so now I've got two manifolded Faber steel 12's with Agir bands on a steel backplate, single break basic harness and a Dive Rite Classic wing. Nice and simple, uncluttered... great!
I've got a single-piece harness that I'm playing with in the pool so might move to that sometime.
I didn't find too much difference between different cylinder setups - the Euros weren't that different to the Fabers and I got a good deal on mine so I'm happy. The biggest thing to get right for me was the harness/backplate setup.
Just to confirm what Graham said I bought mine from Clare Gledhill and the orientation was excellent. A day at Vobster where she set up my kit, hose routing etc and then in the water she had a guy video so we could look at the first dive and work on things on the second.
Thoroughly recommended.

Nigel's twins rig
I have a ss backplate of indeterminate brand, a holycon one peice harness, a frog midnight, and twin faber 12's with boots.
it works for me
Most technical instructors will do an 'introduction to twins' which will help you either make a decision as to what you want, or help you get the most out of the kit you have chosen. I think they usually charge in the region of £100, which is money well spent.
I can PM you a few names if you want.
