Hi Guys,
As you can see, at the bottom of the main forums page, the trips, dives and other events in the site's Calendar have now been put in chronological order, expanded, cleaned up, ALL given an appropriate URL linking them back to its corresponding thread in either Planned Trips or Spare Boat Spaces to Fill and show events upto one year ahead. Trips placed in the Calendar outside that time-frame
will appear in the list as & when the system's internal clock sees them being upto one year ahead and then placing them in the list.
I trust that this meets with general approval and that you agree that this makes it much clearer for users - instead of users having to trawl through yards of Planned Trips or Spare Boat Places, all they need to do is click on the event in the Calendar to see what's on offer - this will ONLY work effectively if folks follow the 'How To' instructions below and keep the Event Calendar up to date!!
So how do we progress?
From today, and to save you all having to re-write whole chunks of your initial trip post in the Event Calendar, all you have to do is:
'How To Post in the Event Calendar':
1. Only AFTER you've posted your intial post, in either Planned Trips or Spare Boat Spaces forums, please then go to 'Calendar' at the tool bar at the head of the main forums page.
2. Click on 'Calendar' and then see the top righthand corner, where you will be offered 'Add New Event' - click this and choose from the options (one day event, ranged event etc.)
3. Instead of going into yards of detail (other than adding a title for the Event and inputting the dates etc.), please just write words to the effect of "For full information on this trip, please see the following link..."
4. Then cut-and-paste in the URL from the 'FIRST PAGE' of the Planned Trip of Spaces to Fill you want to show.
5. Any problems or questions with any of this, please PM me and I'll sort it for you.
What should go (and what should not go) in the Event Calendar?
The Event Calendar is there for members to post details of dive trips, diving events and other
noteworthy YD events: it is
not there for folks to post when they are going on holiday (regardless of how exotic the destination might be) or going to be away from the boards for any length of time!
Cheers,
